Munich was once again the international meeting point for the digitalization of the construction, real estate, and facility management sectors on November 26 and 27, 2025. BIM World MUNICH 2025 at the ICM – International Congress Center Messe München impressively confirmed its status as an important platform that brings the entire BIM ecosystem together.
With more than 8,500 visitors from 78 countries, it surpassed all expectations. The event also recorded a considerable increase in the number of exhibitors, particularly in the CAFMWORLD, the satellite event for the digitalization of the facility management and real estate industries, as well as in the BIM Town startup area, thus demonstrating the importance of personal exchange among experts.
Digitalization as a Necessity: Focus on AI, Data Management, and Cybersecurity
All visitors, exhibitors, and speakers agreed on one thing: digitalization is no longer an option but a necessity to increase productivity and boost the construction and real estate industry. However, this changes the core tasks of those involved, increasingly moving towards the management of complex data models and the control of efficient digital processes. The congress offered in depth insights on eight stages into the practical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in planning and operation, as well as the digital transformation of construction and existing properties. Safety in these highly networked ecosystems was also discussed. With the increasing digitalization of buildings and the use of AI driven processes, new attack surfaces for cyber threats emerge. Especially in facility management, where operational processes, sensitive data, and technical infrastructure are closely linked, cyber security becomes a strategic key competence.
A parallel congress, held in cooperation with the German Association for Security Technology, also focused specifically on this, dealing intensively with the resilience and security of critical infrastructures and showing how the Digital Twin can be used for prevention and in times of crisis.
BIM as Key to Efficiency in Operations
Another central topic was the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) into operations. CAFMWORLD illustrated that BIM data is the key to efficiency in ongoing operations. Experts at the congress and the breakout sessions demonstrated how BIM and Building Operation Systems (BOS), through data control, become strategic drivers for the performance and sustainability of properties. An expert panel also highlighted how rising costs and ESG pressure require new strategies in operations and discussed the potential of BIM for facility management. The central question was: Is predictive maintenance through networked data already a reality or just wishful thinking?
Innovation at the 8th Smart Building / Smart Construction Innovation World Cup®
On the Innovation Stage, 36 finalists competed this year for a spot in the 8th Smart Building / Smart Construction Innovation World Cup®. The expert jury selected VESTIGAS as the winner from the remaining Top 8. VESTIGAS is the Supply Chain OS for the construction industry and enables suppliers, freight forwarders, and construction companies to exchange orders, delivery notes, and invoices completely digitally and process them automatically. Optocycle took second place, and factorymaker came in third.
BIM Strategy in Politics
A special highlight on the first day was the tour of the exhibition followed by a press talk with Christian Bernreiter, Member of the Bavarian State Parliament (MdL) and State Minister in the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Construction and Transport. Topics of the conversation included both the variety of technical innovations, such as Artificial Intelligence at BIM World MUNICH, and the progress of the Bavarian Ministry of Construction regarding BIM and digitalization.
Christian Bernreiter emphasized: “I am highly enthusiastic about how the entire industry continues to progress and what is all possible.”
Other political representatives were present from this year’s partner country, the Czech Republic, which, with a politically established BIM strategy, is one of the European pioneers in creating legal and practical frameworks for future proof, efficient, and sustainable construction processes.
Summary and Outlook: 10 Years of BIM World MUNICH
Christian Stammel, CEO of RM Rudolf Müller Events GmbH, summarizes: “BIM World MUNICH 2025 was once again impressive, because everyone was talking about BIM4Infrastructure, BIM4Machines, and BIM4RealEstate. All these areas of application are based on data, data interoperability, and Artificial Intelligence. Imagine a future where every building and every bridge tells us when the next maintenance is due. That is exactly the power of AI in conjunction with BIM – and the reason why so many people came to BIM World this year. The future is promising, as sensors and data increasingly merge with AI. This gives us results we have never seen before. We will continue to drive this development – and make it visible, especially at our 10 year anniversary next year at BIM World Munich.”
Following the successful conclusion of the ninth edition, BIM World is already looking ahead to next year, as a special anniversary is approaching: 10 years as the industry’s central innovation platform. Planning has already begun. Interested companies and organizations can already register as exhibitors and secure their place on the exhibition floor and in the congress. The 10th BIM World MUNICH will take place from November 24 to 25, 2026, at the ICM – International Congress Center Messe München.
