BIM Implementation and Legislation in the Czech Republic
Description
The Czech government has supported BIM since 2016, when it recognized its importance for economic growth and competitiveness. The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) was appointed to lead the process and, with other ministries, the Czech Standardization Agency and czBIM, prepared the national BIM Strategy (2017) and its update (2024). The key outcome is the BIM Act, approved in July 2025, which legally defines how information about built assets and the built environment is managed. It introduces standardized digital models, data environments, and procedures for public property managers and regional authorities. The Act aligns with openBIM principles to ensure interoperability, efficiency, and transparent management across the entire life cycle of public construction projects.
