Description

The presentation will show how 3D scanning and BIM can support the documentation and preservation of existing buildings. Using the historic Mehoffer Hall in Kraków as a case study, we will present the process from 3D scanning and point cloud acquisition to the creation of a BIM documentation model in GstarBIM.

BIM is increasingly becoming the foundation for digital building information management, not only for new buildings but also for renovation, modernization, and existing structures.

The case of a historic building whose future was at risk demonstrates that accurate digital documentation can be valuable not only for architects and designers, but also for the preservation of cultural heritage. A digital model can preserve knowledge about a building even if its physical form is changed or eventually disappears.

The case study will demonstrate how combining 3D scanning, point clouds and BIM can create a reliable foundation for future design, renovation and conservation work.
