Description

TWINPORTS presents a field pilot at the Port of Vigo that turns fragmented port logistics into an operational digital twin. The project combines BIM/GIS, satellite imagery, drone LiDAR, IoT positioning, computer vision and data analytics to automate port inventory, locate materials in X-Y-Z, monitor cargo areas and prepare simulations for vessel loading and yard planning. A weekly imaginery is processed by a YOLOv8-seg model trained on real port data, supported by LiDAR height models, generating material polygons, stock estimations, GeoJSON/CSV/PDF outputs and historical evolution in under two minutes. Beyond the technology stack, the session addresses the industry challenge: how medium-sized ports can move from manual inspections and disconnected operator silos to a shared, privacy-aware Smart Port layer. The talk shares lessons learned on data quality, AI training, BIM-to-operations integration, and the transition from descriptive digital twins to predictive logistics decisions.
